BrewChief's visit to Dogfish Head ended up being one of the coolest experiences I have ever had as a beer fan. I would have been perfectly content exploring the world famous Rehoboth Beach brewpub and being awed by the main brewery in Milton, DE. My wife and I set out to do just that with no other expectations. Little did we know that we would get a chance to hang with the legend himself, Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione. I, like countless other beer fans, knew him from his entertaining Quick Sip Clips and the Brew Masters television series on the Discovery Channel.

Sam, ever the awesome host, was entertaining a collective of Italian brewers at the brewpub when we first arrived. My wife and I introduced ourselves, which was promptly followed by a sampling of rare and delicious Italian brews. Yup, it was that quick. One minute we were unpacking our crap at the hotel and the next minute we were drinking rare brews with Sam Calagione and his Italian brewer friends at the world famous Dogfish Head brewpub. We mingled for several hours and after an entertaining conversation with Greg, Dogfish Head's chief brewery engineer, the event dissipated and we made our way back to the hotel. That, my friends, is how you start off a Dogfish Head weekend!
The next day we visited the main Dogfish Head brewery in Milton, DE. It's a magical destination for any fan of better beer, so I made sure to soak it all in. I met several members of the staff, all of whom were gracious and welcoming. The tour itself was simply inspiring. I loved that every aspect of the brewery was personalized with Dogfish Head flare. Even the vat labels were printed in Dogfish font. You can really feel the love that goes into making these delicious beers. I highly recommend taking this tour as a bucket list item for any fan of better beer.
You can probably guess what the rest of the weekend entailed. My wife and I became honorary brewpub regulars for a several days, spending the majority of our free time within its walls. The brewpub has such a warm atmosphere and the staff is cheerful and friendly. As if just being there wasn't awesome enough, you also gain access to brewpub-only experimental brews and other amazing treats, like freshly dry hopped 90 Minute IPAs. Like 5 minutes ago dry hopped. In the bar. Over fresh Cascade hops. Seriously.
BrewChief's Dogfish Head weekend was so rewarding that it put Rehoboth Beach on our repeat destination list. We enjoyed every minute of our stay (in 60, 90 and 120 increments) and will definitely be returning in the future. While the beers themselves are well worth the trip, it's the awesome people that will bring you back.
