Not an Amber. Not a Bock. Not a Beer.

Repulsive
To begin my first review from the 2011 World Beer Festival in Durham, NC, I would like to ask a simple and straight forward question: what in bloody hell was Anheuser-Busch doing there? The entire point a craft beer festival is to celebrate the many achievements of the craft brewing world, so it really felt like someone shit in my cereal when I saw the Anheuser-Busch booth. Explain to me what they have done for the craft beer movement. Furthermore, why would any self-respecting beer drinker spend money on a beer festival admission only to drink from the soulless corporate tit of Anheuser-Busch?

As a defender of all that is holy in the world of beer, I had to do something. World Beer Festival is our land, our time, how dare big beer set foot inside the holy tent of craft goodness. So you want to play dress up? Fine. It's time to put your craptastic product on the BrewChief chopping block. So without further ado, I give you... the Michelob Amber Bock.

Before I rant any further, I should take the time to reference my previous review of Budweiser. It helps to understand exactly why Anheuser-Busch products are so mind-numbingly terrible:

First of all, the terms ''amber'' and ''bock'' (and ''beer'' for that matter) should be nowhere near this beverage. This isn't an amber. This isn't a bock. It's nothing more than a crappy dark lager. And for the record, the term ''amber bock'' is completely meaningless. It's either an amber or a bock. It can't be both.

The best way I can describe this beer is as such: imagine if an amateur home brewer completely screwed up a basic dark lager. It's a thin, watery, beer-like liquid with a very faint roasted character. It tastes like some idiot accidentally dropped a charred cutting board into the vat.

Overall, Michelob Amber Bock is a terrible beer. There are countless quality ambers and bocks out there that are actually ambers and bocks. Frankly, any of those beers would be better than this crap. If you are considering this horrid excuse for a beer, please do a little bit of research first. Don't be fooled by fancy labels or meaningless names, you will only waste your money on yet another shitty Anheuser-Busch product.
