Escaping the Summer Sauna
A Review of Foothills Hefeweizen by Foothills Brewing Co.

Summer is in full swing and all beer fans know what that means: the onslaught of light, refreshing, easy drinking brews. When the warmer months roll around, breweries flood the craft market with witbiers, hefeweizens, blondes and summer ales. It's a veritable cornucopia of lawnmower beers, all ready to be consumed in an effort to beat the heat. On a recent visit to my favorite local diner, I noticed that they had tapped the Foothills Hefeweizen. Hmm, a summertime treat from one of my favorite regional breweries? Why yes, good sir, I shall have one of those.

In the glass, this beer has a hazy sunny yellow coloration. It comes with a sudsy white head that dissipates fairly quickly. On the nose, I detected a pure orange citrus aroma with a hint of banana bread. Mmm, just what I needed to distract me from the raging sauna outside. Hefeweizens may look thick and cloudy, but good ones should always taste crisp and clean. Foothills' version is a nice example, as the mouthfeel was creamy smooth and free of any grit. It also has a nicely balanced hop profile that adds a zesty quality to the primary citrus. The citrus itself takes the form of a mild and smooth pure orange flavor. The beer finishes clean and leaves only a mild orange aftertaste.

Overall, the Foothills Hefeweizen is a delightful brew that is perfectly fit for the warmer months. I could have easily enjoyed pint after pint without ever growing tired of the experience. It's light and refreshing with a zesty character. Consequently, I can recommend this beer to any and all beer fans. Seasoned drinkers will enjoy it as a thirst quenching brew worthy of a summer session. Novices will appreciate it as an easily drinkable yet flavorful nectar. The Foothills Brewing Company has long since earned my trust as a reliable high quality brewery, and seeing how they treated this light and simple brew has only strengthened that trust. Cheers fellas!
