Great
As the summer months draw to a close, craft beer fans continue to purge their lighter selections. Blond ales and witbiers get replaced by pumpkin ales and Oktoberfest brews. On a recent trip to my favorite local pub, I noticed a few remaining Big Wave Golden Ales from the Kona Brewing Co. Kona is well known for crafting beers that are perfectly fit for a warmer environment. They are located in Hawaii after all, and describe this beer as ''an excellent choice after a day of snorkeling, surfing or just hanging out.'' Sounds like the perfect way to bid farewell to summer.

In the glass, this beer has a clear sunny golden coloration. It comes with a sudsy white head that dissipates quickly. The aroma consisted of a sweet pale malty base with grassy notes and a lemony zing. There is also a touch of honey swirling around, making this beer smell wonderfully inviting. Nothing left to do but dive in for that first taste.

Big Wave has a great summer flavoring that instantly transports you to a warm sandy beach. The hops are wispy and mild, which compliments the sweet pale malt very well. The lemony citrus and grassy notes are nicely balanced and combine to form a savory tang. It has a buttery smooth mouthfeel and drinks very easily, making it a great summertime session brew. The finish is light and mild with no hop bitterness. It simply exits with a light grassy aftertaste.

Overall, Kona's Big Wave Golden Ale is a delightfully refreshing summertime brew. It's a flavorful easy drinking beer with plenty of character. I can easily picture myself with a cooler full of these beauties under an umbrella at the beach. Kona has always been a reliable source of lighter session beers. They are an important player in craft beer's ongoing battle with big beer. So the next time anyone feels compelled to grab a suitcase of piss water, remember Kona and the Big Wave. Who better to trust with your light and refreshing brews than a craft brewery based in Hawaii, the masters of summer.
