Dull
Well, I decided to go in a different direction and try something that Ive yet to review on here. This is an Imperial Red Ale. Im not too familiar with reds. Truth be told I couldn't tell you the last one I had, but I have heard from many that they are full of flavor, so why not see if they are right?

I decided to go with an imperial because...well...I found one and bought it. This guy is ringing in at an 8.6% ABV so we know its got that going for it. When I cracked it open I didn't really get any distinctive smells from the bottle other than ''sweetness''. No specifics hit me. I decided to go directly to the pour and it came out, as advertised, red. A nice, dark, amberish, reddish hue. But right off the bat, I noticed something wrong, at least to me. Lots of yeast particles. Im not talking small ones either. Im talking the size of sesame seeds. I did some research online, and found that this is a normal thing for this beer. I...dont...like...this. It freaks me out. Its like there was too much bottle conditioning, or lack of filtration somewhere? I went back and looked at the bottle, and it doesn't say that its bottle conditioned, so that's why I have some cause for concern. I don't know, but I'll try to power through.

After taking a sip, all I was getting was....biscuits. Like...yeah...biscuits. Im picking up a few spice notes as well. The sweetness that I smelled earlier peeks though from time to time, but its not huge like it was in the aroma department. The carbonation pretty much forces the spice notes up your nose. There seems to be a lot of things going on here, and they aren't dancing well with each other.

I could be totally off on this beer. I don't know if its just because I couldn't get past the sesame seed yeast in it, or the overpowering biscuit smell. Or maybe its just my lack of experience in this category. But hey, this is how we learn. I wouldn't suggest anyone go out and buy this beer, but if you're daring enough to, Id love some feed back to see if it was just me or what.
