A Little Brooklyn Beauty
A Review of Brooklyn Summer Ale by Brooklyn Brewery

I admit with no hesitation that I am a dark beer lover. There is just something about the flavors that go along with them that just makes me happy. Here lately though, I have been on a lighter beer kick. Now I'm not talking about your diet beers, or low carb offerings. No, I'm talking about all of the delicious summer offerings that are currently out there for us all to enjoy. Luckily for all of us, Brooklyn Brewery has one of these delightful little beauties in their lineup. Brooklyn has yet to let me down on any of their offerings, and this beer keeps their streak alive and well.

In the glass, this beer looks like a rich apple juice. Its a nice golden brown, and is as clear as can be. There's about a 1'' head on the beer that doesn't last very long, and all you end up with is a fine dusting of white bubbles sitting lightly on top of your glass of golden goodness. There's a delicious smell of butter and faint malt that you can immediately detect. After that passes, you can pick up on some nice floral notes, and even a bit of a sting on your nostrils from the citrus smells coming from the hops. If you stay with it long enough, you can even detect the sweet smell of honey floating from the glass. I found myself hoping that this beer tastes as good as it smells.

When I went in for that first sip, I knew we had a winner. All of the aromas were well represented in the palate as well. The first taste you get is a nice floral and hoppy slap right on top of your tongue that is complimented well by the high carbonation in there. As your tongue regains its composure from the initial bubble blast, it realizes that its calmly being coated with a nice, light malt and buttered bread taste that is nothing short of perfection. And then at the end, when you have finally embraced the goodness of this beer, it pops back up one more time with a nice little hop bite at the very end.

This is what a summer beer is all about. Its as simple as that. It has a light mouth feel, great flavor, and comes off crisp, clean, and refreshing. If you aren't careful, you could go through 5 or 6 of these without even realizing what you have done. I think any and all beer lovers should give this one a go. It's not complicated or complex, so no one should be scared of odd or unpleasant flavors, but there is enough character to this beer to keep even the seasoned vets entertained. If you don't give this one a try, you are really missing out. Brooklyn Brewery continues to bring it, and I will happily continue to take it.
