Delicious
There is no need to beat around the bush. I love stouts. They are my favorite style of beer. I love the roasted coffee and sweet chocolate flavors, the thick mouthfeel, and even just the way they look in the glass. I have always said that the Left Hand Milk Stout is one of the best milk stouts on the market. There really isn't much to room to even debate it. When out at a local watering hole recently, I asked what, if anything, was available on nitro tap. The bartender informed me that she was sure they had Left Hand Milk Stout on nitro. With a well lit smile on my face, I gladly decreed ''Give me one immediately!''.

When it arrived, it had a huge cascading mocha colored head that finally calmed down to about a fingers worth that stayed around for the entire session. The beer itself was basically black. There were some ruby red hues around the edges when held up to the light, but they were very thin at best. Warm chocolate aromas could easily be picked out, and after some warming time the coffee smell started to make itself known. I've said before that if it were possible to smell ''creamy'', nitro beers would always fall under that description. This one was another perfect example of just such a scenario.

The first taste was delicious beer bliss. The chocolate is again upfront and it has just the slightest burnt sugar highlight to it. The coffee flavor follows quickly behind it, and falls comfortably into the latte range. Completely non-aggressive and very flavorful. Some faint toffee notes, along with pops of vanilla can be detected with minimal effort. And the mouthfeel only adds to the overall awesomeness of it. The regular Milk Stout is fantastic, but the nitro twist takes it into a completely different level. It really does have the feel of drinking a lovely chocolate and coffee milkshake. What about that doesn't sound delicious?

Left Hand Brewing Company has always been one of those brewery's who never ceases to impress me. I am never hesitant to grab one of their offerings if I see it on a menu. Along those same lines, the Left Hand Milk Stout is one of those offerings that everyone should have no hesitation in grabbing if you see it when out and about. Any level of drinker can easily enjoy it. The more advanced can enjoy it for a very good and solid milk stout that would easily qualify as a great session brew. The beginners can view it as a high level offering to fearlessly sink their teeth into. And if you are lucky enough to find it on nitro, then not only should you order it, you should demand it. And then another. And then one more as a back up, just in case they run out somewhere in the process.

And on a great ending note, Left Hand Brewing Company has mastered the art of doing the Milk Stout in a bottle, so keep your eyes peeled. While currently only available in Colorado, starting in January 2012 it will be available from coast to coast.
